Balance is a meditation app that offers personalised meditation programs based on the meditator’s experience and needs.

Muse Headband is a multi-sensor meditation device that provides real-time feedback on your brain activity, heart rate, breathing, and body movements to help you build a consistent meditation practice.

This project focused on merging two platforms, Balance and Muse, enabling meditators to track and transcribe their meditative process.

Balance believes that new meditators find meditation to be difficult because their minds get distracted more easily during meditation, preventing them from enjoying the practice and creating a regular habit.
 

Our team was tasked to solve the following problem:

To enable meditators to build long-term habits without quitting. 

We conducted user research, implemented competitive/comparative analysis, interviewed meditators, synthesized findings, ran moderated and unmoderated (via Maze.co) usability tests.
At the forefront of this research, we put the question: how to display large amounts of complex data in a way that is digestible for the user. 

We received invaluable feedback by doing the usability testing and then implemented iterations to satisfy users needs. 

 

The result was a high-fidelity clickable prototype that delivered a solution to integrating wearable technology, and also how to present complex tracking and brainwave data to users.

  • Usability testing (a total of 7 in-person) and additional
    remote testing using maze.co (with 31 respondents)

  • A high fidelity clickable prototype built on Figma

  • A project presentation to a peer audience

Based on the results of our final round of user testing, and (in general) of the progress made during our 2-week sprint, we were all pleased with our final prototype, and believed that it succeeded in meeting the criteria of the brief whilst seamlessly integrating a new service within Balance’s existing offering.

With this in mind, certain ideas would require further development and ideation, but I believe what we were able to produce meets the requirements for a minimum viable product.
